Body Positive
In 1985 I met Peter Randall. He was a friend’s boyfriend, and the first person I knew who was HIV Positive. When Peter discovered I was at art student, he persuaded me to create a logo for Body Positive, an HIV/AIDS self-help group that he was setting up with other affected people.
On this World AIDS Day I’m taking time to remember Peter, and all the other lovely friends, who I’ve lost to HIV/AIDS.
Although Body Positive no longer exists, it’s still a thrill to think that one of the first pieces of commercial design work I created, was for this important group. In fact I recently discovered that this logo features in a panel to Peter on the AIDS Quilt UK.
Of course over the past forty years computers have become a standard within a designer’s toolkit. Which lead me to consider how the Body Positive logo might look today, had I been asked to give my original hand-crafted version a little refresh.
